Janelle's art practice is informed by the energy of the natural rural environment surrounding her Barossa life, expressing a felt sense of connectivity and observation.

Dynamic mark making and sweeping gestures are signatures of Janelle’s work, results of deep observation and listening to the interconnectedness of ecology, environment and her inner self. Acrylics, graphite and pastels stir a lucid emotional resonance held in shape, line and colour, embodying a sense of both restoration and refreshing exhilaration.

Janelle muses ‘I’m fascinated by the intrinsic imperfection and unapologetic expression of the natural world around me. The way a tree drops its bark in the wind for example, scattering to the ground at my feet; the shapes and gestures of that bark on the ground can be enough to spark a series of compositions in the studio’.

Janelle’s vivid artworks hang in the Stonewell and Marananga guest suites at The Louise.
